State Trails PlanEvery ten years, the Nebraska Game and Parks prepares a statewide trails plan. The most recent plan, “A Network of Discovery II: A Comprehensive Trails Plan for the State of Nebraska,” was completed in May 2004. The first State Trails Plan was completed in July 1994. The original plan consisted of a vision for Nebraska trails; trail resources and corridors, types of trails, and implementation recommendations for communities building trails. Consultants from RDG Crose Gardner Shukert and Ciaccio Dennell Group in Omaha wrote the plan. The purpose of the 2004-2014 plan is to provide information and recommendations to guide Nebraska State Parks, communities and other agencies in Nebraska in their management of motorized and non-motorized trail resources. The re-write of the plan was funded through the Recreational Trails Program of the Federal Highway Administration, administered by Nebraska Game and Parks, the Nebraska Department of Economic Development, and the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. On this page you will find the 2004 State Trails Plan that you may download, or if you would like a cd of the plan, please contact (402) 471-5425. The next update will begin shortly. Check back on this page to be kept informed on the progress of the plan. Introduction Meeting Notes 1 |
